Brooklyn Band, Zemog El Gallo Bueno
Releases Volume 1 of the YoYouMeTu Album Trilogy

"Dense rhythmic structures, avant brass and reed solos, vocals, and unpredictable arrangements make Zemog a challenging listening experience. Take the challenge; this is provocative music."

- Billboard

"Totally over-the-top eclecticism like rock en Español hardly ever makes anymore: more all-encompassing than Manu Chao, even. Not to mention heavier, artsier, and maybe wackier--yet no less catchy."

- Village Voice

"This is marvelous stuff!"

"Twisting genres at will and singing with skewed humor. But it's largely unplugged, taking the horn section and guitar vamps of Puerto Rican salsa and bending them by way of Mingus and Sun Ra."
— New York Times

For immediate release, New York, NY:

“These Zemog El Gallo Bueno trilogy recordings are entitled YoYouMeTu which are squeezing together “Me” and “You” in Spanish and in English to form one word, one people. It’s sounds like a Kumbaya moment because it is and I mean it,” said Zemog El Gallo Bueno founder, Abraham Gomez-Delgado smiling.
Thanks to his fiancé, writer/jewelry designer Olia Toporovsky, Abraham Gomez-Delgado had an artistic, spiritual and love filled reawakening after he got off the soul deadening medication that was a result of a misdiagnosis. He slowly began to reunite with his musician friends he calls family, to make the golden-tin rooster crow again with Zemog El Gallo Bueno.
Zemog El Gallo Bueno is proud to announce the release of their fourth album, which is the first in the YoYouMeTu Trilogy, YoYouMeTu: Volume 1, The Lost Album. This trilogy is about the search for “Afinque.” Afinque is a traditional Salsa term for when the band, the dancers and the audience become one. For Gomez-Delgado, afinque’s meaning has been more than just a musical term. It has become a life philosophy.
Volume 1, features further experimentation with composition and communal arrangements of Puerto Rican, Cuban and other Latin American rhythms. The songs explore emotions and apathy through contemporary technology, colorblindness in a blinded “post-racial” America, the importance of a sung newspaper, New York City subway cultures and profiting from human suffering amongst other issues, but with fun, humor and dancing in the mix.
Abraham Gomez-Delgado, who is Peruvian and Puerto Rican, moved from Puerto Rico at a young age to a converted chicken coop into racially tense woods of Massachusetts. He spent his summers with his older brother in Crown Heights Brooklyn, which was also racially charged during the 80’s. He moved from school to school going from a private, high-income, all white school to an inner city, poor, predominantly people of color school. Finally he ended up in a high school for the arts, which saved Gomez-Delgado’s life, where he discovered the power of art and music. All of this moving around gave Gomez-Delgado a first hand perspective on the issues of race and inequality in the northeastern Unites States as well as all the love that was also there. Zemog El Gallo Bueno was born to deal with these issues, and in the YoYouMeTu trilogy, he and his family of musicians dive back into that water.
